Strategic Objectives

Today, achieving a significant advance in state-of-the-art information and communications technology (ICT) in the healthcare field requires a multidisciplinary approach, exploiting the expertise and facilities dispersed throughout Europe.

SniffPhone’s extensive collaborative effort will make a significant contribution to the goals of the Strategic Research Agendas (SRA) of the relevant European Technology Platforms: Networked European Software and Services Initiative – NESSI, Nanomedicine – ETPN and Smart System Integrations – EPoSS.

Our main strategic objectives:

  • R&D within a consortium of nine world-class research groups and industrial partners (four SMEs and one large industry).
  • Interaction and communication between the different R&D disciplines and between academia and industry.
A newly integrated SniffPhone will be produced during the project lifespan which will be used for clinical-track validations. The industrial participants, in addition to participating in the research, will also play a role in shaping the academic research through their feedback to the approaches developed.
  • Preparing for commercialization through facilitating the swift transfer of clinical and academic research results, directly to specialized companies.
SMEs will play a crucial role in achieving this objective, which also includes validation of the novel SniffPhone at clinical sites, and performing comparisons with other screening tools.
  • Making effective use of resources by running a lab-track and a clinical-track in parallel.
In the lab-track, the various parts of the (non-integrated) SniffPhone will be developed and tested.
In the clinical-track, the integrated and professionalized SniffPhone will be tested in clinical environment to carry out screening of the gastric cancer.
  • Develop new powerful tools and strategies for breath analysis in the medical and personal health field.
  • Analyzing the commercial potency by using health market analyses and user surveys to identify requirements for a smooth transition to the commercialization stage.
  • Promoting scientific education, career advancement and knowledge transfer.
